Classic-Tropical House with Serene Backyard

In the vibrant heart of Indonesia’s tropical paradise, BJ House emerges as a beacon of classical elegance, its architecture a timeless ode to the serene beauty of its surroundings. The grand entrance, marked by a striking canopy, welcomes one into a realm where luxury and warmth coalesce, promising shelter and comfort within its walls.

BJ House is situated on a plot that stretches longitudinally to the rear. While such a layout is often seen as challenging and less than ideal due to its narrow perception, Cowema Studio has masterfully transformed this potential drawback into a unique advantage. With a land area of 593 square meters and a building area of 1026 square meters, the design cleverly allocates service, private, semi-private, and semi-public spaces to ensure comfort and functionality.

The basement floor serves as a relaxation and activity area, featuring a gym room, guest bedroom, powder room, laundry area, and outdoor living area. This level ensures that all fitness and leisure needs are met in a private and convenient space. The ground floor is designed for daily activities and social interactions. It includes a carport, security room, terrace, living room, dining room, kitchen, and maid’s room. This level is the hub of the home, facilitating seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living. The upper floor is dedicated to private family spaces, featuring a master bedroom with a lounge, kids’ bedrooms, a study room, and a family room. This floor ensures that family members have their personal retreats while also providing areas for family bonding.

The facade of BJ House is a canvas where wood accents and natural stone play in harmony, their contrasting tones enhancing the geometric form of the structure. These elements are not merely decorative; they are integral to the dialogue between the house and the lush landscape it inhabits.

As daylight wanes, the expansive windows of BJ House become portals to the world outside, inviting in the golden hues of the setting sun and offering expansive views that stretch beyond the horizon. The interplay of light and shadow within these spaces adds a dynamic character to the residence, one that changes with the passing hours.

The essence of BJ House’s design philosophy is harmony—a seamless integration of the architectural and the natural, resulting in a tranquil space that soothes the soul. It is here, in the serene backyard, where this philosophy is most palpable. A spacious oasis adorned with a wall water fountain and surrounded by lush greenery, it is a private retreat that speaks to the heart.

The meticulously landscaped garden, with its neatly trimmed hedges and topiary trees, is a testament to the residence’s commitment to creating a harmonious environment. The outdoor seating area, flanked by tall lamps casting a soft glow, invites intimate gatherings and moments of reflection, encapsulating the essence of classical tropical living.

As night descends, BJ House does not sleep; it transforms. The rooftop patio, with its wooden slats pergola, becomes a sanctuary where cool breezes and the dance of light and shadow offer a respite from the tropical heat. It is a space that serves multiple purposes—relaxation, conversation, and reflection—adapting to the rhythms of the day and the moods of its inhabitants.

BJ House stands not just as a dwelling but as a narrative of living. Each space within its embrace is a chapter in a story of tranquility and elegance, a story that continues to unfold with each new day. In Indonesia, where the integration of outdoor living spaces is a growing trend, BJ House is a shining example of how classical architecture can embrace the tropical climate, offering a lifestyle that is connected to nature and conducive to social interaction.

As we conclude our journey through BJ House, we are left with an image of a residence that is more than a structure—it is a living, breathing entity that embodies the spirit of its locale. It is a classic house with a serene backyard, a place where every moment is an invitation to live in harmony with the world around us.
